Anton Volchenkov was chosen by the Ottawa Senators
with in the first round with their first pick (21st
overall). Anton Volchenkov, though later he said he
was surprised to be picked that late in the draft, said
that the Ottawa Senators were “one of my favorite teams”
and that he was “overwhelmed” that they were the ones
to select him in the draft. Ottawa Senators GM, Marshall
Johnston, said that Anton Volchenkov reminds him of
his current top defenseman, Wade Redden. He said that
Volchenkov has similar “poise and his vision on the
ice” and that “He’s really smart, he has great hockey
sense, vision and anticipation.”
